The late Doug ScholzIt is with the deepest of sadness that we inform the football community of the passing of one of its favourite sons Doug Scholz.

Doug died suddenly from a heart attack on Thursday night, July 3rd 2008.

Doug was known to all in the football world and had literally done it all. A great player for both Pennant Hills and the Baulkham Hills Falcons, Doug also coached at junior and senior level and took the Baulkham Hills Falcons under 20 side to the clubs first ever senior premiership. In 1991 Doug also led the club to its first ever First Grade premiership in the SFL Division one competition. Doug was tireless in his endeavours to develop football talent in Sydney and his legacy will be seen for years to come.

Doug won the Snow medal in 1990 for Baulkham Hills, and two Sanders Medals for Pennant Hills in 1997 and 1998.

Doug was always active in the football scene. He was a player, a coach, an administrator, an umpire and also a commentator in the early days of the Sydney AFL television broadcasts.

He was also very well respected as an educator through his work as the coordinator of PDHPE at St Josephs College.

The thoughts and wishes of all at East Coast go out to his wife Jenny and his two children Matt and Kate.

The East Coast Eagles will wear black armbands and observe a minutes silence prior to the First Grade game against North Shore this weekend in Doug's honour.

Further information will be published here when it comes to hand.

He will be missed by all.

The 2008 annual East Coast Eagles Black Tie Ball is on again and this year is proving to be just as big as previous years.

The Black tie ball is the largest social event on the Eagles calendar and each year it has proved to be "the" event to be seen at. It is a great chance for all members and supporters to "scrub up" and show what they are really made of.

This year's event will be held on Saturday the 19th July at the Castle Hill RSL Club. The Ball is on after the game played against St. George at Charles McLaughlin Oval. Proceedings kick off from around 7:30pm so there is plenty of time to get home and get ready for the event.

Tickets to the event have gone against current market trends and have actually come down in price. At a time when petrol, groceries and cross city tunnel tolls are rising, the cost of a good night out is coming down. Tickets are only $90 per head with a special under 18 only price of $55. There will be a gourmet 3 course meal served with all beer wine and soft drinks provided. Entertainment will be provided by our very own band "The Gas" who always guarantee a good time.

RSVP is essential for this event and can easily be done by clicking on THIS LINK - THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE FRIDAY 11th JULY

RSVP is required prior to Friday 11th July - which is just around the corner.

You can also download a flyer HERE

We look forward to seeing all members, supporters and sponsors at this great annual event.

Eagles on the Rise PDF Print E-mail

Luke StanfordEast Coast have risen to third on the Sydney AFL ladder after beating Sydney Uni by 45 points on Saturday at Henson Park.

The Eagles were looking to reverse the result of the Round 3 clash between the two clubs when they let a seven goal lead slip to lose by six points.

This time however the result was never in doubt and had it not been for a seven goal last quarter by the Students the 45 point victory would have been much bigger. The Eagles took advantage of the breeze in the first quarter and set up a 30 point lead. This was increased to 36 points at the main break and East Coast went on to dominate the third term and blow the lead out to 70 points.

Even though the Eagles clocked off in the last quarter it was a pleasing result which again shows the improvement in the team that has occurred throughout the season. It now means the Eagles have won four in a row and look forward to the clash against league leaders UNSW/ES this Saturday.

The EaglesThe East Coast Eagles faced the top of the table UNSW/ES Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in the match of the round at Charles McLaughlin Reserve. This contest would be the biggest test of the season so far for the in form Eagles and after a hard fought battle it was East Coast who emerged 46 point victors.

The key to the win was the Eagles lifting their work rate and superior ball usage after quarter time, with Ed Wilson dominating in the middle and marking all around the ground.

With dual match day sponsors Profiler Sales and Services and Wirtgen Australia watching on, the Eagles got off to a slow start with the Bulldogs leading by three goals at quarter time. Coach Glenn Garner urged his players to persist with the game plan and the Eagles started to pressure the flag favourites all over the ground and on the scoreboard. Rowan Bilkey, who was moved on to the league's leading goalkicker Brad Abbott, repelled the Bulldogs' attack on a regular basis and after Abbott kicked early goals, Bilkey shut down the dangerous forward. It was a ‘finals like’ pressure game with the Eagles kicking 4 goals to 2 in the second term to trail by seven points at the main break.

The 3rd quarter again started at a frantic pace with East Coast hitting the lead for the first time in the game. With a very supportive crowd at their back the Eagles soared, kicking six goals to one including 1st gamer Nathan “Nipper” Gordon kicking his first goal in senior footy for East Coast and he also racked up a ton of possessions across half back.
