East and West Strengthen Ties

Members of the East Coast Eagles met with representatives from the West Coast Eagles last week and vowed to strengthen the relationship between the two clubs.
David Elliott, Emma West and Claire Ryan from the West Coast Eagles landed in Sydney and spent a full day planning session with members of the Board of the East Coast Eagles. The meeting was to explore new and innovative ways to build upon the strong relationship that has been in place for 10 years.
The West Coast Eagles are widely recognised as one of the most successfully run clubs in the Australian Football League and the opportunity for the East Coast Eagles to leverage off this experience and professionalism will no doubt see East Coast able to maintain its mantle as the premier club in the AFL Sydney competition.
Many opportunities were explored on the day covering everything from club membership incentives, marketing and PR opportunities, merchandising and events as well as ways to best celebrate the 10 year anniversary that the East Coast Eagles will celebrate in 2010. The West Coast Eagles will also continue to play hosts to players and administrators during the 2010 pre-season in Perth.
The group came away invigorated by the discussions and look forward to implementing the innovations that came out of the meeting.
East Coast Eagles Chairman, Gus Seebeck spoke of the meeting “It's fantastic to have an AFL club like West Coast so involved in the relationship and so driven to get the best results for both clubs. The support and advice they offer us is unparalleled for a club like ours. We look forward to the opportunities in 2010 and beyond”
David Elliott, the General Manager of Supporter Operation at the West Coast Eagles said “It was so great to be able to share in the premiership success of 2009 at the East Coast Eagles. It is amazing how many people in the West follow our Eastern partners. We are excited at the possibilities the partnership presents and look forward to implementing the initiatives discussed today.”
The East Coast Eagles were formerly known as the Baulkham Hills Falcons and made the decision to change their identity in 2000. The change in identity was seen as vital to make sure the East Coast Eagles could become a club that could provide a pathway for footballers from right across the North West Region of Sydney. The initial announcement was made in January 2000 and was attended by the CEO of the West Coast Eagles, Trevor Nisbett. Since then, the relationship has flourished with benefits for both clubs. The West Coast Eagles are always well represented at East Coast functions with a contingent also present to share in the 2009 premiership celebrations.
In 2009, the East Coast Eagles presented Trevor Nisbett with a fantastic framed memorabilia item depicting the historic 2009 premiership victory. The frame shown here with Mark Nicoski, hangs proudly in the reception of the West Coast Eagles offices in Perth.
Both East and West are excited to continue this relationship for years to come.
