Ryan Silvester gets a handball awayThe East Coast Eagles travelled out to Olds Park to take on the St. George Dragons for round 2 of the Sydney AFL 2010.  On a hot day and in conditions more suited to playing football in the outback of Australia, the Eagles got off to a solid start kicking 5 goals to 1 in the 1st quarter.  The conditions were taking a toll with the Eagles losing 4 players for the game due to injuries sustained in the 1st quarter.  Glenn Garner was injured in the warm up and had to be replaced in the selected side by Darren Chapman. Kieran McRedmond injured his hamstring early, Mike Beardsley limped off with a groin injury and big Anthony Stubbs received a nasty kick to his shin leaving the Eagles with only 1 on the bench for the remaining 3 quarters.

In 2009, the East Coast Eagles Coterie Club was kicked off on a trial basis to determine how we would like to see it work and what benefits it could bring to the Club.

In case you don’t know what such a Club is, the word "coterie" is of French origin and means "a gathering of friends." The essence of the Coterie Club is building ‘friends of the Eagles” who will participate in varied activities associated with the Football club and supporting it financially by collecting and contributing funds for the players and the Club itself, separately to what the Board of Directors are able to do.

Perhaps the best known example of a Coterie Club in AFL footy is the one conducted by Carlton in Melbourne.  See www.bluescoterie.com to review their website. Whilst we are a long way from their magnitude, everything must start somewhere and within several weeks the Eagles Coterie will have its own section within the East Coast Eagles website.

At present the Eagles Coterie has around $750 in accumulated funds which has arisen from the original eleven members from 2009.  Peter Physick has administered the Coterie in 2009 and is happy to do so again in 2010 as we grow it to larger proportions. In 2009, the weekly membership cost was $10, giving a total contribution of $180 across the minor round season.
