The East Coast Eagles have partnered with long time supporter Base Course Management to continue the Base Course Management Player Scholarship Program in season 2010.

The program has been created to identify talented footballers who show potential to play first grade football for the Eagles. The scholarship will cover such costs as playing fees, apparel and equipment, gym membership and specialist coaching.

East Coast Eagles Chairman, Gus Seebeck was thrilled to announce the scholarship. "The Eagles have recognised the huge potential of young footballers in the Norwest Region and the announcement of the Base Course Management Player Scholarship will allow us to not only invest time into the development of these future Eagles, but now we can assist with the financial aspects of playing high level football"

Base Course Management General Manager, Steve Gawley, spoke of their involvement with the scholarship program. "What we are able to do by partnering with the East Coast Eagles and offering this scholarship is focus on the long term future of not only the Eagles, but football in the North West Region. We have long supported the Eagles and look forward to seeing some of these young guys running around in the years to come. We are extremely proud to support and implement the program"

Applications are open to all young men aged between the ages of 16 and 20 years including players of all level of experience with Australian Rules football.

Applicants are invited to download the application form from the East Coast Eagles website at www.eastcoasteagles.com.au and by clicking on the Under 18 section of the 'The Club' tab or downloading it from the link at the bottom of this article.

The East Coast Eagles have begun their pre season campaign for another year. It is always difficult to focus on the start of another year so early but with good numbers on the track, it seems that a lot of Eagles are intent on greater success in 2009.

For some of the younger Eagles it is a new adventure setting out on a pre season campaign, for others like Michael Sankey it is senior football pre season number 15. Despite attempts to introduce special 'veteran' status, Michael is out there putting in the hard yards with everyone else.

The Eagles are training at Gilroy College in Castle Hill which has had some players questioning whether the venue was chosen because of the surrounding hill areas at the ground.

Some great early performances have been put in by players such as James Mann and Corey Durie, with special mention of a returning cult hero in Matthew 'Zoo' Williams. Youngster Jack Dimery is also setting a pace for others to follow.

All Eagles players are encouraged to get down to training to ensure that they dont get left behind the pack when the real stuff starts in '09

Training is being held every Tuesday and Thursday right up untill the 23rd December at Gilroy College, with the 2009 training singlets to be handed out next week.

Long serving Board member Peter Physick has decided to hang up his boots as an East Coast board member after 13 fruitful years. It will be strange not to have Peter at board meetings but he will still be around the club in some capacity.

The club thanks Peter for the tireless and huge amount of time and effort he has put into the club over 13 plus years and we hope he can sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labour for many years to come.

Martin Tolar was unopposed in his nomination to take Peter’s place as Director of Facilities Management. Martin is an ex Baulkham Hills Shire Councillor and played a big role in the development of Bruce Purser Reserve and is currently CEO of the Australasian Compliance Institute. He is a welcome addition to the board.

All other Board members from 2008 are back on deck for season 2009.
